Scratches are the least of them. With the R1250GS engines, it should be noted that the construction of the engine cylinder valve train is extremely complex and it therefore makes sense to protect the cylinder head as a precaution. Since the exposed valve covers are mounted in a non-positive manner, there is a risk that they will move relative to the cylinder head in the event of any force and possibly affect the expensive valve train. Therefore, the additional protection of the cylinder head is of particular importance.
